FAQs

General

Is your meat Halal?

We stock a range of meat from our producers that is Halal certified.

Our online Halal range is available here: Halal beef collection

We try to produce as much raw material as possible on site, which means we operate in a mixed environment that includes pork. Whilst all meat categories are separated (e.g. beef and pork), once Halal certified meat is cut into items such as steaks, it is no longer considered “certified”.

All of our lamb, Wagyu, Angus, Our Farm, and grass-fed beef is Halal slaughtered; however, it is cut and prepared in our production area and therefore cannot be sold as Halal certified.

Our tallow is Halal.

Please ask our friendly floor staff or butchers in-store, or get in contact with us at info@meatemporium.com.au.

The meat had a strange smell when it came out of the vacuum-sealed bag. Why?

The meat in the package has been deprived of oxygen since it was sealed, so as you open the bag the gas will be released. Give it a few minutes to air out on the counter and take another whiff. It should smell different from your average meat (that’s a good thing!). It should never smell sour or feel slimy – if it does, let us know. It’s a sign that something’s wrong.

Where does your meat come from?

We source our meat from Australia's best meat producers and wholesalers. To find out more about the origins of a piece of meat on the floor, ask one of our friendly floor staff and they will happily tell you all about it!

We also source a large majority of beef from our family farm, which is at the base of the Snowy Mountains in the Upper Murray region of NSW. Our cattle are prime Black Angus and Wagyu Cross, which are grass-fed, single-origin and antibiotic-free. Look out for the products in-store with the Our Farm sticker on them!

What difference does ageing meat make?

Aged beef just tastes better. Supermarket beef is very rarely aged, and the very best beef usually is. Beef has a natural tenderising enzyme in its muscle fibres. That enzyme works for up to 8 days. Meanwhile, as the meat continues to age, it evaporates water from the muscle, which keeps the flavour concentrated.

Here at the Australian Meat Emporium we both wet age and dry age our beef products. When you come in store you will see our hanging meats, which are in the process of dry-ageing. We dry-age our meat for a minimum of 25 days and sometimes it can be aged as much as 40 days. This creates a unique and concentrated flavour which makes it the perfect special treat!

Do you have 100% grass-fed beef?

Yes! All the Our Farm products that we have at our shop are 100% grass-fed.

Do you provide wholesale pricing?

Typically no. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality meat at the lowest prices, and our produce is already extremely competitively priced.

If you are looking to purchase a very large amount, please get in touch with us at info@meatemporium.com.au.

How long can meat last in the refrigerator?

On average you should consume or freeze your (vacuum-sealed) product within 7 days of its arrival.

  • Poultry needs to be consumed or frozen as soon as possible, or within 4 days.
  • Pork should be consumed or frozen within 5 days of delivery.
  • Lamb should be eaten or frozen within 7 days of delivery.
  • Beef is unique. Whole beef should be eaten or frozen within 10 days of delivery. That being said, beef can last longer – as long as the meat doesn’t smell sour or feel slimy, you are good to go.
