Glazed Ham
Serves 8-10
Ingredients
- 4.5kg half leg ham
- 400ml house made ham glaze
- ½ bunch thyme leaves, picked
- 1 pack of cloves
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Remove the ham from its packaging.
Step 2
Place ham glaze and thyme into a small saucepan over medium heat and simmer until warm.
Step 3
Use a sharp knife to cut around the ham shank. Carefully run a knife or fingers under the skin around the edge of the ham and gently lift off skin in 1 piece and discard. Ideally leave as much of the fat intact as you can.
Using a sharp knife, cut 2cm diamonds into the ham. Place a clove in each square for decoration and flavour if you like.
Step 4
Place the ham on a large roasting tray. Cover the shank with foil. Brush ham with a glaze and bake for 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes with remaining glaze until golden.
For a whole sized ham, use the same steps and double the amount of ham glaze used. A whole ham will need at least 1.5-2 hours in the oven.
